2017 summary
It’s November. There’s a horrible weather outside, but I made some tea and it’s still pleasantly warm. I’m sitting in front of my laptop… I’m having a day off, it’s so calm and quiet and I can finally collect my thougths. So I decided to sum up 2017 right now, because I’m pretty sure I won’t be able to do this at the end of this year during Christmas time with my crazy family 😉
2017 in one word
I still can remember the beginning of this year when I had put this photo on Instagram. It said: It’s gonna be a tough year… Hope we will be happy :)… Yeah, tough is a perfect word to describe this insene year.
2017 projects
I’m not gonna say what went wrong, I’m only going to describe finished projects.
01. Flood Escape game
With my husband End3r we made first simple demo of this game during 2017 Global Game Jam hackathon (you can read more about it here). Then we polished it and released after a couple of months. At the end of this year we’ve published new Xmas level. And right now we’re still working on some bugs and features. It’s the kind of projects I’m really proud of. Go and check it out.
02. Gamedev.js designs
New logo, event banners, graphic elements for video and promo materials (eg. stickers), even the website layout which was heavily altered – I made all these in 2017 for Gamedev.js meetups. Before the baby was born I was able to take part in gamedev events. Right now this is the only way I can still be part of it, so I’m happy with it.
03. js13kGames designs
It’s a tradition that I’m preparing js13kGames t-shirt designs (since 2012). Beside the t-shirt I’ve prepared sponsorship pdf, A-Frame category landing page and for the first time in my life a cardboard design (which was very well received, from what I heard).
04. Designs for Enclave Games
Beside the games (I mean the one Flood Escape game), I made a t-shirt design and a rollup.
05. Tutsy rebranding
New logo, new WordPress template. I’m still trying to keep Tutsy alive.
06. Couple sets of icons
Yeah, I love to design icons. I’m trying to do it in my spare time and I’m happy when I prepare some icon sets, even if I cannot publish them (internal use).
07. Some logotypes
I can’t tell you about all of them (again, NDA), but I’m happy with them all. What you can see for sure is the new Tutsy logo and the new Gamedev.js logo.
08. Small weather app
Again – I can’t tell you about the details, but it was nice to do it.
09. Conference branding
And once more – no details, big fun 😉
2017 on Tutsy
As I mentioned above I’m still trying to keep Tutsy alive. I’ve changed the logo and website layout. I was back with new posts in May. I’ve published 22 new posts with one brand new tutorial and one awesome freebie. It’s not much but still better than nothing.
2017 and private life
01. The Child
She turned our life upside down. And even if it’s tough and I’m tired as hell, I simply love her the most. And none of those projects above could give me more satisfaction than facts that my daughter:
– learned how to walk,
– went for the first time to the nursery,
– did a trip by bus with me for the first time,
– ate alone,
– already have almost all teeth,
– learned how to name a lot of things,
– learned how to ask questions,
– learned how to run fast with things she shouldn’t touch,
– made gingerbread cookies with me,
– learned how to sleep all night long, but decided not to do this very often,
– learned how to solve jigsaws,
– grew out of a pacifier,
– learned how to draw and paint and all that dirty stuff,
– learned that books are’t for eating,
– learned how to sing and dance,
– learned how to put on shoes…
…and much more. So you can imagine how proud I am.
02. 3/4 work time for Samsung
In April I came back to work at Samsung after maternity leave. It was 3/4 work time, but still pretty exhausting even if I spent most of the time on sickness leave with my daughter.
03. Weight
Still fighting with the extra kilos that like me a lot.
04. Books
Books I wanted to read: Hygge. Klucz do szczęścia, Jedz pysznie z niskim IG. Books that I had to read but I don’t regret doing so: ProszÄ™ mnie przytulić, NaciÅ›nij mnie, Wierszyki ćwiczÄ…ce jÄ™zyki, Myszka w paski i pierwsza pomoc and even more children’s books which I was reading before anyway and will read again and again and again…
05. Places
I was never the soul of the party. I like to stay at home. But right now – when our daughter is often ill, I had to stay home more than I wish. That’s why I like places I visited this year, even if most of them was 50 meters away from home… But hey, I was at the movies once (literally once!) this year, so the visit at the park sounds like party 😉
06. Home
If I spent a lot of time at home I’m glad I already (almost) finished furnishing our home (we moved in 2 years ago). It’s all about extra pictures on the walls right now.
2018 plans
I was going to not make any plans for 2018 like I did at the begining of 2017. But then I realised it’s not about not making plans so you could avoid the disappointments of unfinished projects, it’s all about how you deal with failure. So I’m going to challenge all 2018 potential failures, come on – bring it to me!
Projects plans
– Soon you will hear about my next big project – more details at the bigining of January 2018
– I’m going to design more than one game – 12 will be perfect (one game a month), but I will be happy even with two 🙂
– Bring back to life all social media channels
Plans for Tutsy
Keep up with keeping Tutsy alive. Post at least one post a week. Post some tutorials and my own freebies.
Private plans
– Keep up with all the baby stuff and don’t go crazy 😉
– Fight with the extra kilos (exercise, eat healthy, hydrate the body)
– Try to become a gardener and plant some plants (buy a few and try not to kill them)
– Go out more (one big event a month)
– Remember about myself (one pleasure a month)
And what about your summaries and plans? I love to hear about them 🙂
