I’m following Natalia Sławek from jestrudo.pl for some time now. I like her aesthetics and things that she’s doing. She’s a photographer and she’s also teaching people how to take cool pictures. One of her methods is a photo challenge.
Last month I took part in one of them. The Summer photo chalenge was the 8th photo challenge from @jestrudo, but it was the first one for me.
The task was to take as many pictures as you can to illustrate the topics from a list of 20. I have to admit that I nailed all of them and it’s an awesome feeling 😀 I was publishing all the pictures on my Instagram feed during the whole month of June, but now is the time for a little summary. I’m putting all 20 pictures here.
I’m thankful to Natalia for offering this chalenge and to myself for taking part in it. It’s true what Natalia was saying – you’re not the same person anymore after the chalenge ends. Each and every photo changes you. I will tell you here what has changed in me:
1. Fairy tales – Bajkowo
I’m starting to see the bright side of maternity. Since now I was constantly scared if I’m doing well or not, I was fighting with new, totally different reality. Now it’s more fun – I play a lot with my daughter, we read together, smile and have nice moments. I’m learning how to let the stress go and not to be scared all the time. With this photo I realized I’m finally getting what I wanted from all this maternity thing – a cool time spent with my baby 🙂
2. Emotions – Emocje
I thought I will do some smily face for this topic, but I was really sick. I was more like sad and exhausted – those are emotions too, but I covered them with this simple smily face mask. But you know what is under that mask, cause everyone can have worse days sometimes.
3. Invert – Na odwrót
Ok, this was fun. I was thinking about this topic, and thinking, and thinking… and ended up with nothing. I was trying with upside-down, left-to-right, vice-versa and even with palindromes! But then I’ve discovered the closest invert to me – Photoshop’s Invert 😉 I’ve chosen the items for this flatlay by their colors, but inverted to the colors on my Instagram feed. So after putting Invert filter on the picture I’ve got the composition that maches my IG perfectly 😀
4. Nice weather – bad weather – Pogoda-niepogoda
I was waiting for a rainy day almost all month. I felt like a real photographer when I’ve finally got a perfect condition for my shot.
5. The Spring – Wiosna!
When you think about Spring I’m sure you can see nature getting back to life, all those flowers, fruits, veggies, sun, warm weather. For me, the perfect symbol of Spring is a daisy. I gave one to the Spring to thank her she was perfect as she should be this year 😉
6. Another me – Inna ja
I was having laryngitis, I took a shower and I don’t know if that was because of antibiotics kicked it or what, but I had this crazy idea to take a picture in the towel… I was almost nude!!! 😉 But I wanted to immortalize this moment I always enjoy after a good shower – I’m like another person. No matter if it’s a hard day, horrible sickness, bad news, exhausted exercises – after shower I feel complete 🙂
7. Texture – Faktura
Ok. First thing I thought about was an invoice. I was sure I will take a picture of a table coverd with invoices 😉 But I’m more of an artist than an accountant, so I found the contrast of a few textures next to me – when I was to weak to think straight because of unexpected laryngitis, I noticed this cute setting in my bed.
8. Minimalism – Minimalizm
I’m extremely happy with this picture. I’ve seen similar concepts with invisible spoon all around and always wanted to do something like that by myself. And second, I’ve learned how to make a latte – all by trial and error. I’m so proud of myself!
9. Small celebration – Małe święto
I’ve published this photo much later than I’ve took it. The scene here is the Children’s Day morning, before everyone in our home wakes up. I thougt I will have another small celebration during the whole month, so I could capture it, but unfortunatelly I haven’t… But after a while I think this one is perfect – it’s Children’s Day for me – you get it? – “The Small People Celebration” 😛 But after this I’m sure one thing: small celebrations happen everyday, only sometimes we just can’t see them.
10. Like painted – Jak malowane
Nature is the gratest painter. I took this photo for two reasons. One – because this cherries are like painted, so it’s obvious they match perfectly for the topic. Second – because in school I was painting cherries in Photoshop once, and I really wanted to do it again, so I took this photo to actually do it.
11. Breakfast – Śniadanie
It was my first photo taken for the chalenge. After publishing the blogpost about flatlay photos on Tutsy I really wanted to make some more flatlays by myself. In that post I wrote that food is just perfect for flatlays, so I went for it. This breakfast was delicious and I’m happy we could eat it all together – me, my husband and our daughter. We’re trying to eat together but in a daily rutine it’s hard sometimes. So this breakfast was our lovely family time.
12. Repetition – Powtarzalność
Yeah, that is something I don’t like to talk about… I’m still fighting with extra kilos after giving birth to my child. It’s not exactly “after pregnancy kilos”, it’s more like “I forgot about taking care of myself kilos”. With this photo, and some other actions, I’ve started a revolution in my life, so I could be back to my weight before pregnancy, and what’s more important, to the life in which I’m thinking about myself first.
13. Pasteles – Pastele
I do like pretty things. I’ve discovered I still have them around me. Not everything was taken over by my child and her destruction abilities 😉
14. At close range – Z bliska
I wrote on my Instagram feed that no matter how long I’m thinking about this topic, I’m ending up with photo of a close relations, not a close distance. And again – I’m starting to see my close realation with my daughter and I’m descovering I don’t have to be scared if I’m a good mother or not. If we have this closeness, then I surely am the best mother 😉
15. My secret – Moja tajemnica
I’m a rather honest person. I don’t have secrets. there’s a big chance if you’ll tell me something, I won’t keep it as a secret forever 😉 But sometimes I’m simply not saying anything about something. I’ve got one project I’m constantly calling a “secret” one. I don’t want to talk about it until it will be finished. But here, I’ve put a piece of it – just a small, blurred bite…
16. I’m feeling – Czuję
I took similar picture some time ago. You can say I’m repeating myself but this is THE MOMENT for me – this is a short period of time in which I feel everything, because I’m alone with my tea and my thoughts… This could be a perfect frame for “Small celebration”, “Another me”, “Morning”, “Breakfast”, “Distance”, “My secret” and others, because it’s everything for me. It’s my comfort zone and I’m feeling everything in here.
17. Shapes – Kształty
The circle, the rectangle and the line – this is my day to day geometry – a tasty one 😀
18. Morning – Poranek
Another flatlay. This time it was a composition in bed. It was also another thing I wanted to do for some time: a picture in a bed. The “morning” topic was just perfect for this. So as you can see, Natalia’s list was like a catalyst for me to do what I wanted to do anyway for a long time.
19. Oh, colors – Ach, kolory!
Another pro of being a mum – you can color coloring pages like a small child. I didn’t want to show a lot of colors here, only their potential – and colors are fun.
20. Distance – Dystans
This picture was fun too. I wanted to take a photo of something different than a physical distance. I know a different distance – it’s the moment you’re taking care of yourself, forget about bad things and let everything go. Lemon balm tea helps, and a lot of lemon balm tea helps a lot 😉
The whole challenge ends for me at the perfect time – it’s my birthday today and this is the best gift I could give myself. Those 20 pictures to know myself better, to express what’s in my mind, to create something important for me. Big thanks to myself and to Natalia again! 🙂
